Like Battleborn or Overwatch, each of the four classes have their passive abilities and light-hearted personalities from their one signature weapon. This was obviously built with VR in mind, but I was able to look past this issue, not sure how many others will. The natural movement of the game does take a little getting used to with your options being a slow or fast directional turning through clicking the left stick. The good news is, you can experience this entire Free-To-Play crazy fest without it. This whole game was built-in mind to be a Saturday morning war cartoon…in VR.
Luckily, this actually doesn’t play out like your standard multiplayer shooter, but a throwback to the late 90s-early 2000s of this genre, with a Goldeneye health system, vibrant gunplay, no iron sights (or ammunition for that matter) and mystical power-ups galore. I am one who enjoys the shooter genre very much, but for a style like this, I don’t think going the standard route would be an excellent fit.
My biggest fear is that this setting would be nothing more than a skin and the gameplay itself would just be basic modern FPS combat. It’s basically a team-based first-person shooter set in a loony toons inspired World War II. Roqovan is making available the skins, suitable for more arctic adventures (and temperatures) that it introduced last Christmas with its festive reskin of level ‘Moulah Ruse’ into ‘Christmas Ruse’, the level itself available once again throughout July.World War Toons was probably not an extremely popular notice when revealed at PSX 2015, but I was interested. This might all go somewhat to explaining why, in the middle of summer on a day when Wimbledon and large parts of the UK are battling flying ants you can log in to the videogame throughout July to get for free some winter gear for your soldiers.
It can never be said – unless all our schooling has been extremely deficient – that World War Toons takes history or itself too seriously. Although when it comes to Studio Roqovan’s cartoonish depiction of the battles of World War Two in PlayStation VR first-person shooter World War Toons war is, dare we say… fun.īe it taking on the likes of demolition expert General Mayhem, a yodelling yeti called Tom, or Axis foes like Kongo – a gorilla capable of bounding around the map with multiple panzerschrecks or Sturm Shark a German shark with a metal jaw and a mind for conquest.
